Since its founding in 1978, the vocal ensemble Chanticleer has developed into one of the leading men's choirs in the US. Divided into vocal ranges from bass to countertenor, the 12 singers specialize in the Renaissance, having expanded their repertoire onto other eras and musical styles. Gospel, jazz, pop, and contemporary works are also part of their successful concert practice, which has taken them around the world. The GRAMMY award winners' work also includes a comprehensive education program in their hometown of San Francisco. The ensemble borrows its name »Chanticleer« from the rooster of the same name from Geoffrey Chaucer 's »Canterbury Tales« and has thus made a name for itself in vocal music history for over 40 years.
